As a pioneer of the Korean fine chemical industry, DONGJIN SEMICHEM has grown steadily along with the development of Korea's electronic materials market. Based on years of experience and competitive expertise in advanced materials technology, DONGJIN SEMICHEM now holds a place among the world's leading chemical corporations.

DONGJIN SEMICHEM manufactures and sells display and semiconductor materials as well as materials for renewable energy applications (Li-ion rechargeable batteries, fuel cells) and foaming agents.

The company's display and semiconductor products include chemical process materials such as photoresists (PR), bottom anti-reflective coatings (BARC), spin-on-carbon (SOC), chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) slurries, wet chemicals, colored resist, organic insulating layer material, column spacers, etc.

Established in 1967, DONGJIN SEMICHEM laid the foundation for its growth as the first Korean company to develop and domestically produce polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and rubber foaming agents. In 1973, the company entered the global market by beginning to export foaming agents.

With the construction of an overseas production plant in Indonesia in 1992 and the expansion of the Sihwa plant in 1995, DONGJIN SEMICHEM emerged as the world's leading producer of foaming agents. DONGJIN SEMICHEM's foaming agent products are now exported globally under the UNICELL brand.

The company's current success owes to prudent investment in the display and semiconductor industries in the early 1980s - which was made possible by the technical expertise and recognition gained from its foaming agent business. DONGJIN SEMICHEM entered the semiconductor materials industry with the production of epoxy molding compounds (EMC) in 1983. In 1989, with aggressive investment in research, the company succeeded in the first domestic development of photoresist (PR), making Korea the fourth country to do so after the United States, Germany, and Japan. Photoresist allows for the precise micro-patterning of silicon wafers for semiconductor applications.

DONGJIN SEMICHEM is equipped with both the technical expertise and industrial production capacity to become a leading chemical manufacturer. The construction of DONGJIN SEMICHEM's Balan plant in 1995 led to the large-scale industrial production of electronic materials for semiconductor and display applications, a market previously entirely dependent on imports. In 1999, DONGJIN SEMICHEM established a local subsidiary in Taiwan to target the global market. The Balan plant was expanded to include a second production facility in 2000, and the establishment of the Taiwan (1999), Beijing (2004), Qidong (2006), Chengdu (2009), Hefei (2010), Xi'an (2012), Ordos (2013), Chongqing (2014), Huizhou (2015), Fuzhou (2016), Sichuan (2017), Nigxia (2018), and Wuhan (2018) plants have prepared DONGJIN SEMICHEM to become a leading manufacturer of chemical and electronic materials in the global market.

In line with the increasing global awareness regarding the importance of clean energy, DONGJIN SEMICHEM is now actively investing in the development and production of next-generation materials for renewable energy applications. With years of research building upon particle dispersion expertise from our display industry experience, DONGJIN SEMICHEM's new business division specializes in materials for hydrogen fuel cells and Li-ion batteries. The company’s primary product for hydrogen fuel cells is the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), a core component made by applying nanocatalyst-dispersed conductive slurry onto both sides of a polymer membrane. Likewise, conductive agents are dispersed into a solvent to produce essential slurry material for Li-ion battery electrodes.

To streamline such research and development efforts, the company officially assembled the research teams previously part of each business division into an integrated research unit at the Pangyo R&D Center in 2012. The concentrated research effort of the Pangyo R&D Center will serve as an important driving force for the next stage of DONGJIN SEMICHEM's growth.

DONGJIN SEMICHEM aims to compete in the global market with world-leading corporations, manufacturing products that will ultimately benefit the world in the near future. As a company recognized by customers for our excellent product quality and the public for our commitment to corporate social responsibility, DONGJIN SEMICHEM will strive to better serve its customers and the larger society in the years to come.
